Head Coach: Steve Kubel
Grew up with his dad being a Captain in the Navy so moved around every 3 years having lived in Hawaii, Japan and on both the east and west coasts. Attended Westminster High School in S. California where play water polo and swim team all 4 years. Attended both U.C. San Diego where played water polo and swim team until transferred to U.C. Davis and continued with intermural water polo. Attended Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. Practiced in California until 1994 when moved to Carson City, NV. Has 3 children, oldest son Grant, married with 2 children living in Falls Church, VA. Middle son Michael, SLHS graduate in 2009 recently graduated from UNR with mining engineer degree now working for Hycroft Gold mine in Winnemucca and youngest, daughter Heather, currently a sophomore at SLHS.
Volunteered to coach XC for SLHS in 2005 when his son Michael was freshman and prior coach was moving away leaving the team without a coach. Team at that time consisted of 3 athletes. Has been involved ever since as well as with the track team. Started distance running as well at that time and occasionally competing himself including the 1st Try Eryn Triathlon. Area of knowledge mainly distance but has helped in all areas of XC and Track. Had little experience with XC & Track other than being active prior but due to profession as a podiatrist, has an intimate knowledge on gait analysis and running. Currently enjoys running, hiking, backpacking and snow shoeing.
